Explorers Program Goal:
The SSI Explorers program is a comprehensive and engaging aquatic experience tailored specifically for children ages 6 to 9. This unique program introduces young adventurers to the underwater world through a safe progression of swimming, snorkeling, mermaiding, freediving, and pool-based scuba diving. Emphasizing safety, ocean conservation, and foundational water skills, the Explorers program nurtures confidence, independence, and a lifelong love for the marine environment before they are old enough for standard open water certification.
An adventure focused on building confidence, self-esteem and responsibility.
Course Description and Structure:
6 Amazing Explorer Adventures:
Blue Oceans Explorer: Build a foundation in ocean conservation – from discovering the five oceans to simple ways to make a difference.
Snorkel Explorer: Master basic snorkeling gear and techniques for safe surface exploration.
Freediving Explorer: Learn breath-hold basics for gentle underwater freedom.
Mermaid/Merman Explorer: Glide gracefully with mermaid tail or mono fin swimming for a magical twist.
Scuba Explorer: Take your first breaths underwater with introductory scuba skills.
Toledo Zoo Aquarium: Go on the behind the scene field trip at the aquarium.
A graduation party is part of the adventure, where we celebrate achievement and enjoy food and drink.
Class Structure:
A total of eight classes with one make-up day at the end, for kids that missed a class.
Each class lasts around 2 hours with 30 minutes of academics and the rest in the pool.
The field trip Toledo Zoo Aquarium will be scheduled at a later time to accommodate parents’ availability.
The program is taught under the supervision of SSI Certified Explorers Instructors (SSI Open Water Diver instructors with additional training and certifications).
For safety and full attention to kids, seats are limited to 9 participants

What to bring:
A swim suit and a towel
Fins, Mask and Snorkel are provided by Aqua-Hut.
Aqua-Hut pool is heated at 88°F but some kids enjoy having a shorty for extra protection.
Snorkeling kits and shorties are available for purchase if you want your kid to continue the adventure in a home pool or others.
