Our Local Dive Sites

A great local asset to get you certified and build confidence and experience.
In Northwest Ohio, we are very fortunate to have 2 local dive sites fitted out for scuba diving.
White Star Quarry:

White Star Quarry is a 15-acre man-made body of water nested in a natural setting with an average depth of 40ft. It is professionally managed and provides amenities for scuba diving. The physical address is: 77 Scuba Lane, Gibsonburg, OH 43431. The quarry is part of the Sandusky County Park District. Look for the green road sign as on the right. The scuba diving parking lot is at the back of the quarry, just follow signs.

Amenities:
  • Large parking with plenty of tree shadow for those summer days - Picnic tables and BBQ.

  • 6 private bathrooms / changing rooms opened from April 1st to October 31st.

  • 2 water entrance: walk-in (south) and ladder (north) - 3 working platforms, different depths.

  • Plenty of submerged artifacts and discoveries to make dives fun and exciting.

  • Scuba diving concession: air refill, merchandise, quarry map (open weekends).

Registration, Fee and Access:

The dive site is gated and accessible during the weekend and opening hours of the concession. During weekdays, it is accessible through Aqua-Hut instructors. Each diver must register when you arrive at the concession or with your instructor. The fee is $30 per diver per day and is cash only.

How to prepare for quarry dives:
  • A large mat is recommended to protect you and your equipment from gravel, dust and dirt (outdoor carpet, thick tarp or similar).

  • A folding chair is very convenient to get set in your wetsuit or just relax after the dive.

  • Adjust your computer to fresh water and don’t forget to adjust your diving weight.

  • A compass and a SMB is recommended.

  • Drinking water and snacks are also good to have.

Wednesday Fun Dives:

Continuous practice is key to becoming a proficient and safe diver. From June to September, Aqua-Hut organizes Fun Dives Wednesday Fun dives (4pm to 7pm) at the Quarry to practice your skills or just have fun looking for the Motorcycle, Schoolbus, Frito-Lay Truck and plenty more. If you don’t have a dive buddy, we will find you one.

Gilboa Quarry:

Gilboa Quarry is a spring-fed former limestone quarry with 2 diving area. A shallow side ranging from 5 to 65 feet and a deep area dropping to a maximum of 140 feet. The approximate surface is around 15-acres and surrounded by trees. It is professionally managed and provides amenities for scuba diving. The physical address is: 3763 Old State Route 224, Ottawa, OH 45875.

Amenities:
  • Large parking next to the office building. Additional parking next to the diving docks requires an additional fee.

  • Changing rooms with toilets and hot water showers.

  • 6 docks for water entrance as well as 10 working platforms at different depths.

  • Plenty of submerged artifacts and a lot of fish to make dives fun and exciting.

Registration, Fee and Access:

You can register online before your visit. When you arrive, check-in at the front desk. See their website for opening days and hours and options when they are close (they are almost opened year rond). Fee per diver per day start at $38 plus tax and options (dock parking, refill ...). Credit cards accepted.

and see a lot of fresh water fish.
It is also where Deep Dive certification takes place.
